Stimulating the Senses

“Nothing can cure the soul but the senses, just as nothing can cure the senses but the soul.” Oscar Wilde

It is really important to remember that at work, we are still human beings, and we have five wonderful senses that are used to take in information.  Unfortunately too often in today’s workplaces all these senses see every day is a computer screen, they only hear other people’s voices, and they only touch cold and unnatural plastic.    These are all dull, and in turn can make us feel dull and lifeless too.

The purpose of this page is to provide a summary of the blog posts and ideas to stimulate your senses and bring the life back into your workplace.  When you see, hear, feel, taste and smell things that inspire you, your brain ignites and a new world of ideas and creativity is unleashed.  When you are exposed to the wonderful world around you, then you feel happy.

Food is such an wonderful gift, not only for the nourishment it provides our bodies, but also for the comfort and inspiration it can provide to our souls.  While we can’t live our days in the MasterChef kitchen, there are some little things we can do to ignite our tastebuds.  If variety is the spice of life, then here are some ideas to add a little zest to your day!

  • Add a new flavour to your coffee or try a new tea – and then take some time to enjoy the aroma and the warmth.
  • Savour some fresh fruit – the sweet smell and taste can really lift you up and freshen up the whole room.
  • Add a bit of spice to your lunch – literally.  How about a curry or chilli for lunch, or some wasabi with your sushi?
  • Enjoy a little indulgence – how about treating yourself to a good quality dark chocolate.  Relish the smell, the texture and the taste.
  • Brighten up your water – add some quality fruit cordial or lemon and lime slices.  It will wake up your tastebuds and mind every time you take a sip.

I would love to hear any other ideas you have!
